How to Thrive in Stressful Situations
Saturday 11 August with Gen Kelsang Gomchen
10am – 1pm | Fee: £20
We all find ourselves in situations at work or home that we find challenging and it can feel almost impossible to stay happy, calm and peaceful in such environments. The pace of modern life is also increasingly demanding and living in the capital, even simple tasks like doing the groceries can become stressful!
By applying Buddha’s teachings on training the mind we not only learn to keep our peace when faced with adversity but also come to thrive within it. Just as a lotus is born from mud but unstained by it, so too our difficulties can be transformed into something we can learn to grow from. As Geshe Kelsang says:
“If we respond to difficult external situations with a positive or peaceful mind, they will not be problems for us. We may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for the growth and development of our own happiness.” – How to Understand the Mind
What will each session consist of?
Each session will include a combination of teachings and guided meditations with an opportunity to ask questions at the end and socialize with like-minded people during the break time.
Do I need to bring anything or wear anything special?
No. All sessions will take place on chairs but there are optional cushions if you prefer to sit cross-legged. You don’t need to bring anything else with you, but some people like to take notes during the session, so feel free to bring a paper and pen.
